The Selfridge-class helicopter destroyer is a class of destroyer built as flotilla leaders for anti-submarine groups. The Selfridge-class is built around a large central hangar which house either three SH-3/61 or four SH-60/84 maritime helicopters. The ships entered service in throughout 1971.
The Selfridge-class is armed with a 5"/54-caliber naval gun, and ASROC launcher, a Mk.29 SAM Launcher, two Mk.32 triple torpedo tubes and two Phalanx CIWS. It is powered by a quartet of LM2500 gas turbines generating 100,000 shp giving the ships a top speed of 32.5 knots (60.19 km/h).
- The Selfridge-class is basically the OTL USS Hayler DDH configuration proposal, but built before the Spruance-class.
