Tanganyika, officially the Imperial Dominion of Tanganyika (Swahili: Kifalme ya Utawala wa Tanganyika), is a country of the British Empire, located in East Africa. It is bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north; Ruanda, Urundi, and Zaire to the west; and Rhodesia, Nyasaland, and Mozambique to the south. The country's eastern border is formed by the Indian Ocean. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, is in northeastern Tanganyika.

The country is divided into 30 administrative regions: five on the semi-autonomous islands of Zanzibar and 25 on the mainland. The Premier of Tanganyika is Ibrahim Lipumba. Dar es Salaam serves as the country's political capital, principal commercial city, and principal port of the country.

Both Tanganyika and Zanzibar were formerly colonies of the United Kingdom, which became countries within the federated British Empire in 1938. The former Protectorate of Zanzibar joined with the former Tanganyika Territory on 26 April 1964 to form a single, larger country within the British Empire.
