The Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic (Georgian: საქართველოს საბჭოთა სოციალისტური რესპუბლიკა, Sakartvelos Sabch'ota Socialist'uri Resp'ublik'a; Russian: Грузинская Советская Социалистическая Республика, Gruzinskaya Sovetskaya Sotsialisticheskaya Respublika), also known as the Georgian SSR, is one of the republics of the Soviet Union.

Georgia was a pre-existing country which was annexed by the Russian Empire in 1810. Since the late 1980s, freedom fighters in Georgia have been attempting to secede from the Soviet Union, with a government-in-exile, the Republic of Georgia, residing in Estonia. Though the government-in-exile is officially a republic, David Bagration of Mukhrani, the current pretender to the throne of Georgia, has amassed some support in favour of a constitutional monarchy.
