The People's Republic of Japan (PRJ; Japanese: 日本人民共和国, Nihon Jinmin Kyōwakoku), informally known as East Japan (Japanese: 東日本, Higashinihon), is a socialist state established by the UAPR in 1952 out of the American zone of occupied Japan, including East Tokyo of the occupied capital city. The PRJ has an area of 103,223.64 square miles (267,348 km2), bordering West Japan to the south and west and the Soviet Union to the north on the island of Sakhalin (known as Karafuto in Japanese), and shares a maritime boundary with Korea to the west.

East Japan is often described as one of several satellite states of the UAPR. The combination of the state's perceived illegitimacy by East Japanese, as well as economic problems, resulted in 3.4 million East Japanese violating the ban on leaving the country by going to West Japan in the 1950s. Frontier barriers were constructed to prevent further depopulation caused by emigration to West Japan. These barriers also have military value in addition to migration control, as they are strong enough to at least delay a potential invasion by the Allied Pact. The most prominent frontier barrier is the Tokyo Wall, constructed in 1964, which closed the loop hole in the East Japanese border between East Tokyo and West Tokyo. Those who do attempt to flee across the border risk their lives, as East Japanese Border Guards are authorized to use lethal force against escapees, a policy which has resulted in over 100 deaths to date. Forces from the Wake Island Association are deployed along the entirety of the heavily fortified border with West Japan, including West Tokyo.

East Japan has a nominal GDP of ₤653.184 billion pounds (or 1.008 trillion dollars) and a GDP per capita of ₤12,279.50 ($18,949.85).

East Japan is a member of the League of Nations and Wake Island Association.
