The Canadian Armed Forces (French: Forces Armées Canadiennes) are the military forces of the Dominion of Canada. They consist of the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), and Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). The Canadian Forces is overseen by the Armed Forces Council, led by the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee. The Commander-in-Chief is the reigning Canadian monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, who is represented by the Governor General of Canada. The Department of National Defence, headed by the Minister of National Defence, is the federal agency responsible for the Canadian Armed Forces. All of the branches work together during operations and joint missions under the authority of the Minister of National Defence.
